Elevation 10,023 feet!

On our last full day in Maui we decided to climb a volcano - Haleakala that is. Most people visit the summit for sunrise however this would have required us to wake up at about 3 am and with 3 little ones this wasn't going to happen. So we decided to do sunset instead. It took us about 2 hours to drive all the way to the summit which is 10,023 feet above sea level. We stopped on the way up to snap some great shots.

Arden was pretty good during the drive but started pitching a little fit at about 8500 feet so I decided to take her out of her car seat. Well this made her happy, so happy in fact that she got really still and quiet. Well the next thing you know I have the equivalent of her whole 8oz bottle in the form of vomit all over me and I mean all over me. I had to change pants it was so bad. Of course I started freaking out because I thought she might have altitude sickness so I immediately said "We're going back down, now!" David who was still calm suggested that it might be motion sickness since the road to the top was VERY windy (and David was driving). We checked with Michelle and Doug and their kids seemed to be fine so we ruled out altitude sickness and went with motion sickness, cleaned up the best we could, put Arden back in her car seat and continued the remaining 1000 feet to the top. She seemed to perk up a bit once we reached the top and seemed happy enough to be out of the car. So we bundled up and waited for the sun to set. Definitely a beautiful site!
